Echo is a shareable assistant for a topic or a person. You give it content (web pages, YouTube videos, text, documents), choose the subjects it should cover, and publish a link. Anyone you share the link with can chat with it, and it answers from what you gave it. Use one for a personal profile, a project, a product or a body of work, and make separate Echoes for different purposes.

What you need

  • A Vity account at app.maximem.ai with the first-time setup finished.
  • Content to teach it: web page addresses, YouTube links, text you write or paste, or files.
  • The browser extension is optional. Its popup lists your Echoes under Your Echos and has an Echo workspace shortcut, but you can do everything in the dashboard.

Create an Echo

1

Open the Echo workspace

In the dashboard sidebar, expand Apps and click Echo. The workspace is called Echo Studio. If you have no Echo yet it shows a short intro; click New Echo at the top right to start. After your first Echo, the workspace opens on your list of Echoes, and New Echo adds another.
2

Basic Info

Enter a Display Name and choose a username. The username becomes part of the link, https://app.maximem.ai/echo/<username>. It needs at least 3 characters, only lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, and the page tells you whether it is available. The username cannot be changed after creation. Your Google profile photo and name are prefilled; you can change the photo address or leave it blank. Click Next: Add Content.
3

Content

Add what the Echo should know, using the four tabs: Urls, YouTube, Text and Files. Files can be PDF, DOCX or TXT, up to 50 MB each. For text you can pick a category (Thought, Note, Workshop or Document) and add comma-separated tags. Processing runs in the background and the page shows its progress; when it finishes you see “Content processing complete.” Click Finish.
Echo does not read X (Twitter) or LinkedIn posts or articles from a link, because those sites do not allow it. Paste that content into the Text tab instead.
4

Profile

Echo writes a bio and suggests areas of expertise from your content (“Your AI-Generated Profile”). Edit the bio, click Regenerate if you want another try, and pick up to 5 expertise areas or add your own with “Add a custom area”. Then click Next: Publish.
5

Publish

Check the link, bio and expertise, then click Publish Echo. The next screen says “Echo is live” and gives you the public link with Copy, Visit Echo and Manage Echo buttons.

What a visitor sees

Visitors open https://app.maximem.ai/echo/<username>. They see the Echo’s name and photo, a “Verified Echo” label, the bio, a message box, and a button for each expertise area you chose. Clicking an area starts a chat with “Tell me about” that area. Visitors can start over with New Chat, copy a reply, and use Share to share the link. Answers show a Sources list when they draw on your content. A visitor’s chat is remembered in their own browser, so it is still there if they reload the page on the same device.

Sharing and privacy

A new Echo is Public: anyone with the link can chat with it, without signing in. To change that, open the Echo, go to Manage Echo, then the Settings tab, and under Privacy choose:
  • Public: “Anyone with the link can chat with your Echo.”
  • Private: “Only people with allowlisted email addresses can chat with your Echo.” Add each person’s email address to the list. The button next to an address sends them an invite email (once every 24 hours per address), and the other button removes them. Visitors to a private Echo see “This Echo is private” and sign in with Google to check their access. If you switch to Private with an empty list, nobody except you can chat with it until you add addresses.
You can also turn on Echo chat in Settings, then Notifications, to get an email when someone chats with your Echo. Because the Echo may be public, only add content you are comfortable having it answer from.

What an Echo can and cannot answer from

An Echo answers from the content you added to it and stays inside the expertise areas you set. It does not browse the web, and it does not know things you have not given it. When it has nothing to answer with, it says “I can help with” followed by your expertise areas and invites another question. If a visitor tries to make it ignore its instructions, it replies that it can help within its expertise areas and asks them to rephrase.

Review and improve your Echo

Open Manage Echo. The tabs are: When you open your own Echo while signed in, a “Was this right?” control appears under each answer so you can mark it right or wrong.

Turn off or delete

To stop visitors without deleting anything, switch the Echo to Private and leave the allowlist empty, which blocks everyone else. To remove an Echo, open Manage Echo, then Settings, and use Delete Echo in the Danger Zone, then confirm with Yes, Delete Forever. Deleting an Echo is permanent: its content, conversations and settings are lost. Deleting your whole Vity account also removes your Echoes.

What it uses and sends

Your Echo is built from what you add in the Content tab, plus the answers you write in Unanswered and the context you add in What it knows. When a visitor sends a question, it goes to Vity so your Echo can answer. Your Echo’s link and its public page are visible to anyone you share the link with, and to anyone who finds it if the Echo is Public.

Troubleshooting

  • “Echo not found or you don’t have access” or “Failed to load your Echo workspace”: click Retry, or Back to Dashboard and open Echo again.
  • “At least 3 characters required” or an unavailable username: use at least 3 characters, only lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, and pick a name that is not taken.
  • “All URLs/text failed processing”: check that the address opens in a browser and the text is not empty. Paste social posts into the Text tab.
  • “Unsupported file type” or “File too large”: use PDF, DOCX or TXT under 50 MB.
  • A visitor sees “This Echo is private”: the Echo is set to Private. Add their email address to the allowlist, or switch to Public.
